The Lone Ranger - Digital Remasters
The Lone Ranger is a fictional character that first appeared on radio in 1933. The masked person was a former Texas Ranger who fought outlaws in the American Old West with his Native American friend named Tonto. The storyline is based in the late 1800's, sometime after the civil war. The Lone Ranger radio program was by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker. It first aired on the radio station WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan. The radio program was carried by more than 400 American stations by the end of the decade.
This was played on the radio for American families to listen to. This type of broadcast was like story time for people that aired over the radio. An audible book created for radio. The creators included music and sound effects, they even used cricket noises to portray it was night during a scene. This gave the people a chance to use their imagination. The only disadvantage of this was one could miss an airing. A new episode aired every two to three days. They did not have devices to record these broadcasts at home when one as not there to hear it. The recordings in the archive are from 1941 to 1942, I could not find earlier recordings.
