Module 4 - Explore & Curate: Printed Texts - Wendell DeLong
For my first artifact I found this picture of this moveable metal type printing press.
This one is from Goryeo Korea, and it was from The invention of the moveable metal type Archive. The archive said this was from the 1300s and it was one of the first moveable type presses ever made. To my knowlage this one was created to make the process of printing and making books faster and decrease the amout of mistakes made when people would transcribe by hand. This one was made from a metal casting and even though they were more complicated then the wood type they worked better and lasted longer.
For my second artifact I am using this picture from the Invention of the moveable metal type Archive. This pictures destiprion states that it is the first record of the moveable metal style press and it proves that people from Goryeo Korea were using this technolagy in the early 1300s.
For my last artifact I chose this picture from The Invention of the movable metal type.
This picuture show something that came before the metal type press. These are wood type blocks used to print and were used before the metal type. They got replaced by metal because they did't last very long and the process of carving them out was very time consuming. I thought this was an interesting picture because it shows how people started printing and how far things of come since then.
