Hello Class. I am going to be talking about Imhotep's Book of the dead. This artifact is kept in a museum to showcase to visitors to showcase Egyptian History and showcase multiple themes on the Papyrus scroll. This long artifact that includes over 250 texts is showcased at eye level so the viewers can easily see all of it. Even if they cannot read the text the many pictures and drawings can give an idea of what is happening. There are many themes to the scroll that does not go in any particular order. For instance, the start of the scroll depicts a funeral and then is followed by the mummification process which would have happened prior to a funeral. It also tells a narrative of the solar cycle of death and rebirth or provides the proper spells for preventing bodily decay. This collection is to show us how the afterlife was perceived in ancient Egypt, hence the name the book of the dead. It shows us not only their beliefs at the time but also the art form. This was very important to them and was made with dedication and the best possible tools at the time which can also tell us a story.
