I visited the British Museum's online Papyrus exhibit, and it contains artifacts of the ancient writing surfaces found from different periods in Egypt. The purpose of the online collection is to share artifacts and the history of different cultures. The objects displayed in the museum and its exhibits have either been donated, excavated, or purchased or given during conflict and other significant activities. The artifacts are not sorted alphabetically but are thematically spread, and each artifact has labels listing its identity, where it was found, and the time it is from. (The British Museum, 2022)

An example of an artifact from this collection is a papyrus from the book of the Dead of Pakharenkhons (pictured lower left). This collared scene vignette was found excavated in Egypt and dates back from the late period. Another artifact from this collection is an unopened roll of papyrus (pictured upper left). The curators noted that it has stains on it from bitumen, a mineral abundant in the area, which shows what was used on these objects. (The British Museum, 2022) This collection shares a narrative of how people in this area have kept and changed their documentation and communication methods throughout different times and provides evidence for arguments on which these surfaces were commonly used for what was displayed.
